Harmony House Mission

Your generosity is a lifeline that protects the dignity and well-being of people in our community and supports them as they rebuild their lives.

In the heart of Elwood, Indiana, Harmony House Mission lives out its mission of “loving God by caring for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of others.” Founded in 2019 by Doug Perkins, what began with one man showing up in the park to build relationships with the unhoused has grown into a life-changing endeavor.

Thanks to a $4,500 grant from Madison County Community Foundation, Harmony House Mission completed essential roof repairs and replaced a broken water heater at their New Life campus—a critical step in preserving the safety and dignity of the men they serve.

The facility provides transitional housing for 10 men, with capacity to expand to 30 as resources allow. For individuals stepping out of prison, rehab, or life on the streets, New Life offers not only a place to sleep, but a foundation for starting over.

Each day, Harmony House provides more than just shelter—they serve 30–50 people with hot meals, clean clothing, access to showers, and laundry facilities. The impact of this grant is evident in the daily lives it touches, like the man who regularly comes with his three daughters for meals.

Just this week, two more men arrived in need of housing. The need is constant—and growing.

Doug Perkins shares, “There have been men who’ve done better, then fallen again, done better, then fallen again. But I can’t give up on them.” For Doug, this mission is more than a calling. It’s life purpose. “My life was made for this.”

This grant also reflects a greater vision: the development of the Connect Campus—home to the soup kitchen, and envisioned as a place where individuals can connect to job opportunities and healthcare support. Doug dreams of expanded hours, more volunteers, and a full network of services that meet the needs of the whole person.

Your generosity made it possible to keep a roof over their heads and hot water in the pipes. But even more than that—it helped preserve dignity and ignite hope.
