Firefly Children and Alliance
Your generosity is helping families find their way back to one another.
Across Madison County, parents working to overcome substance use while navigating the child welfare system face an uphill journey. Court requirements, treatment plans, and the day-to-day realities of rebuilding stability can feel overwhelming. Yet with the right support and a community willing to walk alongside them, real change becomes possible.
In 2024, the Madison County Community Foundation awarded four $25,000 SPARK Grants to help launch and strengthen promising initiatives across the county. One of those grants supported Firefly Children & Family Alliance and its work to pilot Family Recovery Court in Madison County.
Family Recovery Court brings together judges, case managers, treatment providers, CASA teams, and community partners to support parents working toward recovery and reunification with their children. Instead of navigating services alone, participants are surrounded by a coordinated team focused on healing, accountability, and long-term stability.
Thanks to a $25,000 SPARK Grant from the Madison County Community Foundation, Firefly’s Family Recovery Court moved from vision to action.
During the grant period, 38 families received comprehensive wrap-around services tailored to their needs, including therapy, intensive outpatient treatment, recovery coaching, parenting classes, peer mentoring, and supervised visitation. Families also had access to a resource pantry stocked with essential items such as hygiene products, children’s clothing, diapers, bedding, and household goods, small supports that made a meaningful difference as parents worked to rebuild stable homes.
One parent shared that she could not have completed the program or been reunited with her children without the support of Family Recovery Court. After years of struggling with substance use, she now feels equipped with the tools to be a present parent and an active member of the community. Stories like hers reflect the deeper impact of this work. Each strengthened family contributes to healthier neighborhoods, reduced strain on local systems, and renewed hope for others still on the journey.
The program’s success is rooted in collaboration. Community partners including the Department of Child Services, local judges, treatment providers, and CASA teams worked together to provide coordinated support and consistent care. Communication and trust among partners strengthened throughout the year, laying a strong foundation for continued growth.
Firefly’s Family Recovery Court is one example of how SPARK Grants help promising ideas take root and grow. Through this investment, families are being reunited, parents are finding recovery, and children are returning to safe and stable homes.
Your generosity makes this possible. Together, we are helping families rebuild and move forward with hope.
